CSA America, Inc. respects the privacy of visitors to this Web site.
By visiting this Web site, your personal information is collected, used and disclosed by CSA America in accordance with this Privacy Policy, as amended from time to time.

This Web site is linked to other sites, some of which are owned and operated by affiliates of CSA America, Inc., including Canadian Standards Association. The affiliates and the URL's for such linked web sites are listed under the heading "6. Linked Web Sites to Affiliates of CSA America." Because of the close association and working relationship between CSA America, Inc. and its affiliates, including working together to provide services and information, for the purpose of this Web site the term "CSA America" shall mean CSA America, Inc. and its affiliates. Similarly the term "Web site" shall, where the context requires, include web sites which are owned and operated by affiliates of CSA America, Inc. and are linked to this Web site, as listed in Paragraph 6 of this Privacy Policy.

This Privacy Policy applies to on-line practices only. There may be separate agreements with CSA America and its affiliates, in which case another privacy policy will apply.

You can visit CSA America on the Internet without telling us who you are or revealing any information about yourself. We only collect personal information about you when you specifically and affirmatively provide it on our site, for example when you register on our site or complete survey information or buy products.

By using our Web site, you are expressly consenting to and have knowledge of the collection, use and disclosure of this information, as identified in this Privacy Policy. If we make any changes to our policy, such changes will be posted here, so you will always be kept informed of our current information-handling practices. We recommend that you review the Web site for changes by referring to the date of "Last Update" at the top of this page.

1. INFORMATION COLLECTED AND USED

   Customers requesting information, products and services on CSA America's Web site or on sites of its affiliates, will be asked to provide personal information. You will need to register if you would like to make a purchase through our Online Store. When you register, we collect personal information which may include your name, address, phone number, fax number, email address, preferred language of communication and similar information about the organization the you work for, as well as a Username and Password that you will use to login to the Web site in the future. The registrant may also enter their credit card information so as to be able to directly pay for items purchased through the Online Store. We collect this information to set up your account, process your order, and provide you with the items you are purchasing, and with amendments or errata which may be issued to documents that you purchase through this Web site or the Web site of an affiliate.

   There are a number of other areas of the Web site where you may enter personal information in order to benefit from our programs and services:

   • You may be able to pose a question through the "Ask Us" or "Contact Us" pages. Personal information which is collected may include your name, address, phone number, fax number, email address, preferred language of communication and similar information about the organization the you work for ("Contact Information"). This information is used simply to respond to your inquiry.

   • If you fill in an online survey about CSA America's Web site or the Web site of an affiliate, we may ask for your Contact Information in order to follow up, if necessary, based on your responses.

   • You may be able to apply to become a Committee Member, Sustaining Member, Consumer Volunteer, or otherwise get involved in the work of CSA America or Canadian Standards Association, or receive access to certain information on new projects. Should you choose to enter your Contact Information and areas of interest in our convenient fill-in forms, your information will be used to set up and facilitate your membership, or otherwise register you with us, so that we can forward to you relevant information from time to time.

   • You may be able to provide your Contact Information to obtain agendas, quotes and other information relating to seminars and other learning opportunities which are offered through the Learning Centre (learningcentre.csa.ca). The Learning Centre is operated by an affiliate of CSA America, Canadian Standards Association, and is linked to the Web site of CSA America. This information may be used to extend further sales and service offerings via telephone, mail or electronic means.

   • Where a Web site of CSA America or its affiliate the Canadian Standards Association has an online public review section relating to Standards which are in the process of development, draft Standards may be previewed and commented upon. This information may be shared with persons who are working on the development of the relevant standard, such as committee members.

   • A Certification and Testing Application Form may be available on the Web site to allow interested persons to take the first step towards product certification online. Contact Information and a description of the products to be certified must be provided in order for a certification specialist to obtain some background information before contacting you. This information may be used to extend further sales and service offerings via telephone, mail or electronic means.

   In each of the above circumstances CSA America, including its affiliates listed in Paragraph 6 of this Privacy Policy, may use your Contact Information, personal account information and transaction history to generate statistics and aggregate reports for internal use, as well as to extend further sales and service offerings via telephone, mail or electronic means.

   Thus, CSA America, including its affiliates listed in Paragraph 6 of this Privacy Policy, only collects and uses your information for the following purposes:

   • To provide you with information, products, services and programs that we anticipate will respond to your interests and needs;

   • To manage your account and maintain commercial relations with you;

   • To respond to your questions or concerns;

   • To provide customer service, billing, user surveys, subscriptions to newsletters and other materials, and other exchanges of information, and to generate statistics, and otherwise keep aggregate information on Web site use for internal use; and

   • To meet legal and regulatory requirements.

2. INFORMATION THAT DOES NOT IDENTIFY YOU

   CSA America, including its affiliates, may from time to time use cookies to collect certain non-personal, technical information from your computer's Web browser about how our Web sites are being used. Cookies are small text files that your web browser leaves on your computer's hard drive. Cookies allow a web site to track a particular browser's movement over the web site through a number of sessions. A web site can use cookies to recognize repeat users, facilitate the user's access to the web site, and track use of the web site so that web content and layout can be improved. The information collected by cookies may include the domain name and IP address of the visitor, the amount of time spent on the site by a visitor, the pages visited and returned to, the operating system and Web browser software used, and the referrer Web site. Only CSA America, including its affiliates, can access the information provided by the cookies which are collected from this Web site. CSA America, including its affiliates, makes no attempts to link this traffic information to the individuals visiting our Web sites.

   Visitors who hyperlink to the Online Store (learningcentre.csa.ca), or use the search engine from this Web site or from the Web sites www.csagroup.org, www.csa.ca and www.csa-intl.org (all of which are operated by affiliates of CSA America), must accept cookies through their browser in order to use the Online Store or the particular search engine. A cookie variable is assigned to you when you log in or set up a new account and is placed on your computer for programming purposes only. This is a temporary or session cookie that uniquely identifies you as you move from page to page on this site. For the Online Store, it ensures that you have properly logged in and that your personal information is only accessible to you. For the search engine, it is used to remember the key words you are using to find information on the site.

3. DISCLOSURE AND RETENTION OF YOUR INFORMATION

   The personal information which you provide to us through this Web site may be disclosed to the affiliates of CSA America which are listed in Paragraph 6 of this Privacy Policy. Except as set out in this Privacy Policy, such personal information is not disclosed to any third parties without your knowledge and consent. We do not sell any of your personal information to any other businesses. In addition, we share your personal information in the following circumstances:

   • User profiles, including your Contact Information, entered by those participating in an online public review of draft standards may be disclosed to the relevant Standards Committees and others involved in the standards writing process that consider the public comments provided.

   • When signing up for Web-based or other training, your Contact Information may be disclosed to third parties who administer the Web training on behalf of CSA America, including its affiliates.

   • CSA America, including its affiliates, will release personal information if required to do so by law, or pursuant to bankruptcy proceedings.

   The Contact Information and other personal information which you provide to us is stored in our secure databases as long as you are a customer of CSA America, including its affiliates. You must notify Cathy Rake at CSA America, or the relevant affiliate of CSA America as the case may be, in writing or by email if you no longer want your information to be retained by us.

   Please note that after following our standard process of deleting information, some residual information may remain in our backup files.

4. ACCURACY OF THE INFORMATION AND ACCESS TO IT

   CSA America, including its affiliates, relies exclusively on the information provided by its Web site users, and will only seek independent verification of credit card information supplied when making a purchase. Please contact CSA America if your contact details change to ensure that you are kept up-to-date on the products and services we offer, and to avoid an interruption in your receipt of communications from us.

   To change your information, have your information removed from our databases, or confirm the information we hold about you, contact Cathy Rake at CSA America, or the relevant affiliate of CSA America as the case may be, in writing or by email. If you have an account with an affiliate of CSA America, you will be provided with a means to review and modify some of the Contact Information and other personal information that you provided when setting up the account.

5. HOW IS THE INFORMATION KEPT SAFE?

   To secure the transfer of certain personal information relating to credit cards and Usernames and Passwords, CSA America, including its affiliates, uses a Secure Socket Layer (SSL) Server Certificate. The SSL Certificate is used by the Online Store which is linked to this Web site. When setting up an account for purchases or making a purchase, all your information is collected within secure pages, so that it is encrypted while being transmitted to the secure server. The server is protected by a firewall that is updated with new patches and fixes as required. However, the Internet is not a secure medium and the confidentiality of communications and transmissions through the Internet cannot be ensured by CSA America, including its affiliates.

   Except as noted above, information entered anywhere else on the CSA America Web site, or on the web site of one of its affiliates, is transmitted unencrypted to a server or servers operated by CSA America, including its affiliates, using standard Internet protocol (HTTP).
