Customers requesting information, products and services on CSA America's Web site or on sites of its affiliates, will be asked to provide personal information. You will need to register if you would like to make a purchase through our Online Store. When you register, we collect personal information which may include your name, address, phone number, fax number, email address, preferred language of communication and similar information about the organization the you work for, as well as a Username and Password that you will use to login to the Web site in the future. The registrant may also enter their credit card information so as to be able to directly pay for items purchased through the Online Store. We collect this information to set up your account, process your order, and provide you with the items you are purchasing, and with amendments or errata which may be issued to documents that you purchase through this Web site or the Web site of an affiliate.
There are a number of other areas of the Web site where you may enter personal information in order to benefit from our programs and services:
- You may be able to pose a question through the "Ask Us" or "Contact Us" pages. Personal information which is collected may include your name, address, phone number, fax number, email address, preferred language of communication and similar information about the organization the you work for ("Contact Information"). This information is used simply to respond to your inquiry.
- If you fill in an online survey about CSA America's Web site or the Web site of an affiliate, we may ask for your Contact Information in order to follow up, if necessary, based on your responses.
- You may be able to apply to become a Committee Member, Sustaining Member, Consumer Volunteer, or otherwise get involved in the work of CSA America or Canadian Standards Association, or receive access to certain information on new projects. Should you choose to enter your Contact Information and areas of interest in our convenient fill-in forms, your information will be used to set up and facilitate your membership, or otherwise register you with us, so that we can forward to you relevant information from time to time.
- You may be able to provide your Contact Information to obtain agendas, quotes and other information relating to seminars and other learning opportunities which are offered through the Learning Centre (learningcentre.csa.ca). The Learning Centre is operated by an affiliate of CSA America, Canadian Standards Association, and is linked to the Web site of CSA America. This information may be used to extend further sales and service offerings via telephone, mail or electronic means.
- Where a Web site of CSA America or its affiliate the Canadian Standards Association has an online public review section relating to Standards which are in the process of development, draft Standards may be previewed and commented upon. This information may be shared with persons who are working on the development of the relevant standard, such as committee members.
- A Certification and Testing Application Form may be available on the Web site to allow interested persons to take the first step towards product certification online. Contact Information and a description of the products to be certified must be provided in order for a certification specialist to obtain some background information before contacting you. This information may be used to extend further sales and service offerings via telephone, mail or electronic means.
In each of the above circumstances CSA America, including its affiliates listed in Paragraph 6 of this Privacy Policy, may use your Contact Information, personal account information and transaction history to generate statistics and aggregate reports for internal use, as well as to extend further sales and service offerings via telephone, mail or electronic means.
Thus, CSA America, including its affiliates listed in Paragraph 6 of this Privacy Policy, only collects and uses your information for the following purposes:

- DISCLOSURE AND RETENTION OF YOUR INFORMATION
The personal information which you provide to us through this Web site may be disclosed to the affiliates of CSA America which are listed in Paragraph 6 of this Privacy Policy. - When signing up for Web-based or other training, your Contact Information may be disclosed to third parties who administer the Web training on behalf of CSA America, including its affiliates.
- CSA America, including its affiliates, will release personal information if required to do so by law, or pursuant to bankruptcy proceedings.
Please note that after following our standard process of deleting information, some residual information may remain in our backup files.

- ACCURACY OF THE INFORMATION AND ACCESS TO IT
CSA America, including its affiliates, relies exclusively on the information provided by its Web site users, and will only seek independent verification of credit card information supplied when making a purchase. Please contact CSA America if your contact details change to ensure that you are kept up-to-date on the products and services we offer, and to avoid an interruption in your receipt of communications from us.

- HOW IS THE INFORMATION KEPT SAFE?
To secure the transfer of certain personal information relating to credit cards and Usernames and Passwords, CSA America, including its affiliates, uses a Secure Socket Layer (SSL) Server Certificate. The SSL Certificate is used by the Online Store which is linked to this Web site. When setting up an account for purchases or making a purchase, all your information is collected within secure pages, so that it is encrypted while being transmitted to the secure server. The server is protected by a firewall that is updated with new patches and fixes as required. However, the Internet is not a secure medium and the confidentiality of communications and transmissions through the Internet cannot be ensured by CSA America, including its affiliates.
