Construction Electrician (NOC 7241) Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Systems Certification (SPVC)

Why the need for a Personnel Certification?

Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Systems Certification (SPVC)The growth in the market for Solar Photovoltaic (PV) installations, the shortage of skilled labor and the need for safe and effective installation of PV systems have accelerated the requirement to identify and formally recognize competent system installation personnel. To address this need, CSA Standards (CSA), through the support of the National Electrical Trade Council (NETCO), is now offering a national, third-party, independent personnel certification program intended for Construction Electricians installing photovoltaic (PV) equipment in Canada.

This certification is designed to confirm the competencies of qualified Construction Electricians who install and maintain solar photovoltaic power generation systems and equipment for use in settings such as industrial, commercial, institutional, power generation and residential settings in compliance with appropriate Codes, Standards and industry best practices.

Benefits of Obtaining this Certification

The certification is designed to meet the needs of workers, industry, regulators and the general public by:

  • Helping ensure that Construction Electricians who install and maintain Solar PV systems have the demonstrated knowledge and skills to perform the task required for this line of work.
  • Promoting national standards across Canada aiming to enhance the safety, quality, reliability and consumer acceptance of Solar PV installations.

Pre-requisites:

Candidates for the certification include qualified Construction Electricians (NOC 7241) installing Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Systems. Candidates will need to meet the following requirements prior to taking the certification exam:

  • Construction Electrician (NOC 7241) Certificate of Qualification;
  • Demonstration of completion of a recognized Solar PV Installation and Maintenance Training Program consisting of in-class and a practical (hands-on) component; and
  • Submission of a completed application, certification agreement and certification fees.
