Certified Exposure Device Operator (CEDO)
In collaboration with the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC), CSA Standards (CSA) is leading the review, update and revision for a national certification program for persons who operate exposure devices used in industrial gamma radiography.
To complete this project, CSA is seeking volunteers to serve as subject matter experts who will be responsible for shaping the future direction of this profession. The subject matter experts are needed to:
- Review the scope of the certification and the overall certification scheme
- Review the eligibility requirements
- Review and update the requirements of the job and the related job tasks
- Develop a new occupational standard for exposure device operators
- Review and update the competency examination that is used to assess the candidate’s ability to meet the certification requirements
The volunteer commitment required will vary depending on the degree of involvement in each of the phases of development outlined below. Orientation and training will be provided. Benefits include working with a network of peers on a program designed to contribute directly to nuclear safety in Canada.
Support in the following phases of development is requested:
Job Task Analysis Workgroup
- Members of this workgroup are to be experienced practitioners who participate with the Scheme Committee Members in the identification of the knowledge and skills necessary to competently perform the job of an Exposure Device Operator. The workgroup will develop the objectives which will be used to develop the competency exam. Workgroup members will be expected to participate in a four-day in-person meeting.
Item Development Workgroup
- Members of this workgroup will write exam questions and design the requirements for practical evaluations which will determine the competency of a qualified Exposure Device Operator. Workgroup members will be expected to participate in one or two, one-week in-person meetings and may be asked to participate in additional teleconferences if necessary.
Standard Setting Workgroup
- Members of this workgroup are to be experienced practitioners who participate with the Scheme Committee Members in the development of the pass/fail standard which will be used in determining the competent Exposure Device Operator. Workgroup members will be expected to participate in a one-day, in-person meeting.
